World Intellectual Property Day (World IP Day) – 26th April.
World Intellectual Property Day has been an important day in the calendar since its inception in 2000, with each annual celebration featuring a different theme.
The theme for 2025 is – IP and music: Feel the beat of IP.
Intellectual property plays a huge role in supporting the music industry and highlighting creativity. So, this year’s theme is about celebrating passionate creators and the universal language of music. What is World IP Day?
World Intellectual Property Day is an annual event to celebrate the world’s inventors and creators and to explore how intellectual property helps shape our world.
It was initially set up by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in 2000 with two goals:
- To raise awareness of how patents, copyrights, trademarks and designs impact on daily life
- To celebrate creativity, and the contribution made by creators and innovators to the development of economies and societies across the globe

How is World IP Day Celebrated?
Every year, the WIPO sets the theme and leads on its celebrations.
Events are held across the globe to commemorate the occasion and a suite of resources are available from the WIPO for businesses to participate. This includes IP training courses, tools, and a social media kit with campaign materials in eight languages.

The theme for 2025 is IP and music: Feel the beat of IP. This year’s theme seems especially relevant in light of the UK Government’s consultation on copyright and Artificial Intelligence, which has been met with mixed responses by the music industry.
